Asparagus For Healing Cancer

Several years ago, I had a man seeking asparagus for a friend who had cancer. He gave me a photocopied copy of an article, entitled, 'Asparagus for cancer' printed in Cancer News Journal, December 1979.

I will share it here, just as it was shared with me: 'I am a biochemist, and have specialized in the relation of diet to health for over 50 years.

Several years ago, I learned of the discovery of Richard R.Vensal, D.D.S. that asparagus might cure cancer. Since then, I have worked with him on his project.. We have accumulated a number of favourable case histories.
Here are a few examples:

Case No. 1,
A man with an almost hopeless case of Hodgkin's disease (cancer of the lymph glands) who was completely incapacitated. Within 1 year of starting the asparagus therapy, his doctors were unable to detect any signs of cancer, and he was back on a schedule of strenuous exercise.
Case No. 2,
A successful businessman 68 years old who suffered from cancer of the bladder for 16 years. After years of medical treatments, including radiation without improvement, he went on asparagus. Within 3 months, examinations revealed that his bladder tumor had disappeared and that his kidneys were normal.
Case No. 3,
A man who had lung cancer. On March 5th 1971, he was put on the operating table where they found lung cancer so widely spread that it was inoperable. The surgeon sewed him up and declared his case hopeless. On April 5th he heard about the asparagus therapy and immediately started taking it. By August, x-ray pictures revealed that all signs of the cancer had disappeared. He is back at his regular business routine.
Case No. 4,
A woman who was troubled for a number of years with skin cancer. She finally developed different skin cancers which were diagnosed by asking specialist as advanced. Within 3 months after starting on asparagus, her skin specialist said that her skin looked fine and nomore skin lesions. This woman reported that the asparagus therapy also cured her kidney disease, which started in 1949. She had over 10 operations for kidney stones, and was receiving government disability payments for an inoperable, terminal, kidney condition. She attributes the cure of this kidney trouble entirely to the asparagus.

I was not surprised at this result, as `The elements of Materia Medica', edited in 1854 by a Professor at the University of Pennsylvania , stated that asparagus was used as a popular remedy for kidney stones... He even referred to experiments, in 1739, on the power of asparagus in dissolving stones.

We would have other case histories but the medical establishment has interfered with our obtaining some of the records. I am therefore appealing to readers to spread this good news and help us to gather a large number of case histories that will overwhelm the medical skeptics about this unbelievably simple and natural remedy. For the treatment, asparagus should be cooked before using, and therefore canned asparagus is just as good as fresh.

I have corresponded with the two leading canners of asparagus, Giant Giant and Stokely, and I am satisfied that these brands contain no pesticides or preservatives.

** PROCEDURE:
1) Place the cooked asparagus in a blender and liquefy to make a puree, and store in the refrigerator.

2) Give the patient 4 full tablespoons twice daily, morning and evening.

Patients usually show some improvement in from 2-4 weeks. It can be diluted with water and used as a cold or hot drink. This suggested dosage is based on present experience, but certainly larger amounts can do no harm and may be needed in some cases.

As a biochemist I am convinced of the old saying that `what cures can prevent'. Based on this theory, my wife and I have been using asparagus puree as a beverage with our meals. We take 2 tablespoons diluted in water to suit our taste with breakfast and with dinner. I take mine hot and my wife prefers hers cold.

For years we have made it a practice to have blood surveys taken as part of our regular checkups.

The last blood survey, taken by a medical doctor who specializes in the nutritional approach to health, showed substantial improvements in all categories over the last one, and we can attribute these improvements to nothing but the asparagus drink...

As a biochemist, I have made an extensive study of all aspects of cancer, and all of the proposed cures. As a result, I am convinced that asparagus fits in better with the latest theories about cancer. Asparagus contains a good supply of protein called histones, which are believed to be active in controlling cell growth. For that reason, I believe asparagus can be said to contain a substance that I call cell growth normalizer. That accounts for its action on cancer and inacting as a general body tonic. In any event, regardless of theory, asparagus used as we suggest, is a harmless substance.

The FDA cannot prevent you from using it and it may do you much good.. It has been reported by the US National Cancer Institute, that asparagus is the highest tested food containing glutathione, which is considered one of the body's most potent anticarcinogens and antioxidants.

List of Akatsuki Member (Naruto)

Tobi / Uchiha Obito

Obito Uchiha is a former chūnin-level shinobi from Konohagakure and member of Team Minato who was thought to have died at the Kannabi Bridge during the Third Shinobi World War. Following a tragic loss, Obito later began operating as a masked man under the guise of Madara Uchiha, and later under the alias Tobi and became an international criminal responsible for various felonies, as well as becoming the benefactor for the Akatsuki. He is one of the two remaining living Uchiha, and one of the main antagonists of the series.

Zetsu

Zetsu is a mysterious missing-nin from Kusagakure. Not much is known about him, other than his allegiance to Akatsuki and his function as a spy. His head appears to be enveloped in a large venus flytrap, which can also envelop the rest of his body. The right side of his face and body is black in color while his left side is white in color. He has pupil-less eyes similar in appearance to those of a Byakugan user and superior vision. He also has the ability to merge with the ground, trees, and other plants, allowing him to travel long distances fairly quickly. Akatsuki members have so far generally seemed to report to Zetsu as if he was a superior, though perhaps only because he is often acting directly on the instructions of the leader.

Pain / Nagato

Nagato, better known as Pain, was the recognized leader of Akatsuki and Amegakure and was a major antagonist in the series. Referred to as "Leader" by all Akatsuki members, except for Konan (who referred to him by his name) he directed the actions of the rest of the members and maintained authority over them. However, he collaborated with Tobi, who was actually Madara Uchiha, the benefactor of Akatsuki.

As the leader of Akatsuki, and one of the two sides of the Amegakure Civil War, Nagato was an extraordinarily powerful shinobi. His partner, Konan, had stated that he had never lost a single battle, but it wasn't until his fight with Naruto Uzumaki that he encountered an opponent capable of defeating him. He was also able to single-handedly defeat and overthrow the former Amegakure leader, Hanzō, and made short work of Jiraiya after unveiling all six of his bodies, though he stated that he wouldn't have won if Jiraiya knew their secret.

Nagato's most powerful and most used technique was the Six Paths of Pain. This technique allowed Nagato to control six separate bodies as though they were his own. Each of these bodies were reanimated corpses that were both kept mobile by and made use of Nagato's chakra. While controlling them, Nagato used the alias "Pain", yet still regarded them as separate entities from himself.

In order to use the technique, Nagato remained in a machine, that moved with six relatively small mechanical legs, and used several large chakra rods on his back to transmit chakra. From that point, the chakra was picked up by the numerous receivers, modeled as body piercings on each body. To control them, Nagato had to be close by, and ideally at the highest possible point, so he could have the best possible range.

Konan

Konanis the only female ninja in Akatsuki and the only member to call her partner, Pein, by his name. When she was younger, Konan, Nagato, and Yahiko were left orphaned by one of Amegakure's many wars, forcing them to fend for themselves. The three eventually encountered Jiraiya, who looked after them and taught them ninjutsu. Jiraiya believed Konan to have died with Nagato and Yahiko some time later, and upon seeing her again years later he comments on how beautiful she has become.
Konan has a natural talent for origami, as seen with the paper flower she keeps in her hair. This talent extends to her type of jutsu, as she can divide her body into countless numbers of paper sheets. These sheets can be controlled individually and formed into various shapes for a number of purposes; butterflies for scouting, spears for attack, or darts with which to pummel opponents. Konan can even form wings from that allow her to fly. This has led to her title as "God's Angel" amongst the villagers of Amegakure, a reference to her doing Pein's bidding. Like all paper, Konan is unable to use her abilities while wet.
Orochimaru

Orochimaru is a missing-nin from Konohagakure. After he defects from Konoha he joins Akatsuki and is paired with Sasori.[63] Once Itachi Uchiha does the same, Orochimaru attempts to use one of his abilities to forcefully take control of Itachi's body. Itachi repels his effort and severs his hand as punishment, forcing Orochimaru to flee the organization in defeat. Upon leaving he takes his severed hand and the ring he wore on it with him. Because of this, as well as the fact that he had intimate knowledge of Akatsuki's secrets and plans, the members of Akatsuki began making every effort possible to find and eliminate him.

Uchiha Itachi

Itachi Uchiha is an S-class criminal and a Konohagakure missing-nin noted even within the Bingo Book (a list of powerful ninja who have been marked for assassination). He is currently partnered with Kisame to capture Naruto for the nine tailed fox. Unlike most other two-man teams of Akatsuki, Itachi gets along well with his partner. The name "Itachi" means "weasel". In Japanese folklore, weasels are an ill omen, signifying bad luck and death.

Kisame

Kisame Hoshigaki is a missing-nin from Kirigakure and is partnered with Itachi Uchiha. Their first appearance was shortly after the attack on Konoha by Orochimaru, where they attempted to kidnap Naruto Uzumaki. They were thwarted by Jiraiya. Itachi later explained that it wasn't the proper time to kidnap Naruto yet, and that Naruto could be captured at any time given his skill level at the time. Unlike most other two-man teams of Akatsuki, Kisame gets along well with his partner.

Kakuzu

Kakuzu is a missing-nin from Takigakure and Hidan's partner. He and Hidan display the most animosity towards each other out of all members of Akatsuki, neither being very fond of the other's interests. The two often trade barbs with one-another, Kakuzu's usually being better timed than Hidan's. Kakuzu is the longest-lived known character in the series, having lived at least since the time of the First Hokage, whom Kakuzu mentions having fought at one point. Kakuzu is defeated about thirty chapters after his introduction by Naruto Uzumaki and finished off by Kakashi Hatake. His partner, Hidan, is still alive, but in no condition to fight.

Hidan

Hidan is a missing-nin from an unknown village and is the second-newest member of Akatsuki, Tobi being the newest. Unlike the other members of Akatsuki, the Akatsuki leader does not seem to have Hidan's respect. He is the partner of Kakuzu, despite their obvious dislike of one another. Kakuzu has little patience for Hidan's battle style, rituals, and speeches, which he believes take far too long. Hidan, in turn, detests how Kakuzu fights solely for money. He was eventually dismembered and buried alive by Shikamaru Nara. The leader considers him to be effectively dead.

Deidara

Deidara is a missing-nin from Iwagakure and the partner of Tobi. Deidara was originally teamed with Sasori, whom Deidara referred to as Master Sasori. This is probably because Deidara had a lot of respect for his fellow artist. He also admits that Sasori was a lot stronger. Despite that, Deidara still argued with Sasori about what art is and directly disobeyed his command in spite of a threat to be killed. Deidara held that art is transient, departing quickly. Sasori believed that fine art is something wonderful that's left long into the future. This reflects their individual natures (Deidara makes clay sculptures that explode, Sasori makes long-lasting puppets out of humans). Deidara outwardly seems to respect Sasori's beliefs, but couldn't resist getting a final jab in after Sasori's death: "Like anything that is left for the future as a thing of eternal beauty... He got killed straight off!"

Sasori

Sasori was Deidara's first partner in Akatsuki. A powerful ninja puppeteer, he was a missing-nin from Sunagakure. In the Rescue Gaara arc, he assisted Deidara in his mission to capture Gaara from Sunagakure. While there, he fought against Kankuro, nearly killing him and easily destroying Kankuro's puppets in the process. After Gaara was delivered to the Akatsuki lair, he acted as a rear-guard for the rest of Akatsuki, fighting Sakura and his grandmother Chiyo. This battle turned out to be his last, as he was eliminated by two puppets he designed himself, "Mother" and "Father" (his actual mother and father converted into puppets), which Chiyo had taken possession of after Sasori left the village.

Is Your Home Hurting You?

Natural Solutions

It’s not easy to know if your home sweet home could be making you sick, because symptoms of environmental illness (a long list that can include irritation of the eyes, throat, skin, and nasal passages, as well as headaches and fatigue) can have many causes. But your house may indeed be the culprit if you notice you consistently feel better outside than indoors, or you start feeling lousy after: moving into a new home; remodeling your current one; bringing in a new piece of furniture; or using a new product.

When 50-year-old architect Paula Baker-Laporte comes home, she pulls off her shoes and enters an airy refuge. Sinking into a window seat, she basks in the New Mexico light that dances across exposed timber frames. She rests her eyes on the greenery of an indoor garden and unwinds as the scent of the evening drifts in.

Life wasn’t always this bucolic. Ten years ago something was wrong, and Baker-Laporte knew it wasn’t just in her head. She felt sapped and exhausted most of the time. She suffered from a chronic cough, recurrent bronchitis, and digestive disorders. Her home offered no respite, and every time she went out on a job–whether to a remodeling project or a house under construction–she felt even worse.

Baker-Laporte’s friend and doctor, Erica Elliott, was stumped. Then, oddly enough, Elliott herself began experiencing similar symptoms. A mountaineer and marathon runner accustomed to vigorous good health, she began feeling increasingly fatigued, compounded by a flu-like malaise that flared up monthly like clockwork.

With the help of a colleague trained in environmental medicine, Elliott traced her own illness to what seemed an unlikely source: the very air she breathed. Whenever the wind shifted outdoors, toxic fumes from the heavy-duty cleaning products used at her medical clinic wafted into her work area; the building’s exhaust was right next to the air intake vent. To add insult to injury, every four weeks a pesticide company sprayed the office baseboards with the neurotoxin Dursban.

As Elliott became more familiar with chemical exposure and its symptoms, she suggested that Baker-Laporte, too, take a close look at her surroundings. Sure enough, the architect soon learned that in the course of her workdays, she was regularly breathing in formaldehyde, a fungicide and component in glues, as well as other airborne compounds that drifted out from new cabinetry, paints, drywall, plywood, and carpets. At last they had a diagnosis: Both doctor and patient were suffering from environmental poisoning. Instead of providing environments that fostered health, Elliott’s clinic and Baker-Laporte’s homes were making them sick.

It was a rude awakening for both. In fact, Baker-Laporte thought she might even have to give up her career. To make matters worse, she was already in the midst of building a home for Elliott. The doctor told Baker-Laporte that they would simply have to change their plans: The Dursban at the office had made her sensitive to all kinds of chemicals, including those commonly found in homes and used in construction materials. “I told her she couldn’t design a regular house, because I couldn’t live in it,” Elliott says.

But instead of giving up on the house or on her career, Baker-Laporte simply redefined her professional identity. “Once I realized these things were harmful not just to me but to my clients, too, building healthy houses became a mission,” she says.

Together the two friends set out on a path that led them to a new way of thinking about where and how we live. Now, nearly a decade later, they dedicate themselves to teaching others how to make their homes into nurturing sanctuaries.

But keeping dangerous toxins out is only half the story. They also emphasize bringing in elements from the natural world that make a home feel peaceful and relaxing. Creating a home, they believe, is like practicing holistic medicine: Just as the best doctors look at the body as an integrated whole, so should we look at the dwellings that contain us.

Hidden Poisons

The quest Baker-Laporte and Elliott embarked upon a decade ago gained new urgency early this year with the publication of two perception-shattering studies. Most of us believe we can keep toxic pollutants out of our bodies if we take care of the basics–eat healthful foods, drink clean water, breathe fresh air. But when researchers from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Commonweal, and the Environmental Working Group tested that assumption by analyzing blood and urine from nine people–all environmental and health activists who thought they led “clean” lives–the results were shocking. The volunteers’ bodies carried traces of literally hundreds of chemicals: 76 linked to cancer, 94 toxic to the brain and nervous system, 86 that disrupt hormones, 79 associated with birth defects, 77 toxic to the reproductive system, and 77 toxic to the immune system. Among them were well-known poisons like PCBs, dioxin, organophosphates, lead, and mercury.

It’s not clear exactly how these low doses of multiple chemicals might affect health. While the hazards of sudden contact with large amounts of single toxins are well known, little attention has been given to long-term, low-level exposure from many sources. But Elliott has a theory about how it might work, based on her experience with patients suffering from environmental illness, which is now her specialty. One toxin builds on another, she says, increasing our sensitivity and making it harder for our bodies to process the damage. Formaldehyde, for example, triggers the immune system to react more strongly to other irritants–as Baker-Laporte experienced each day on the job.

In extreme cases, people can develop multiple chemical sensitivity, in which even minute exposure to chemicals can trigger disabling symptoms such as seizures, loss of balance, and diarrhea. More commonly, though, people find themselves plagued by garden-variety ailments like headaches, sinus congestion, asthma, allergies, fatigue, colds, and flu.

It seems that many of the invaders in our bodies gained entry years ago, the result of environmental exposures to long-banned chemicals. In a much larger study than the one by the Mount Sinai team, researchers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention hunted for toxins in the bodies of 2,500 people and found many old-timers, including DDE, a breakdown product of the insecticide DDT, which was banned in 1973.

On top of all the toxins we have little control over, many other contaminants come from household products we bring into our homes every day. According to the EPA, indoor air can be more polluted than the air on a busy city street. And in some areas, common household products such as cleaners and cosmetics are second only to automobiles as a source of air pollution. “We’re actually poisoning ourselves in our homes and our workplaces every day,” says Elliott.

If you’re lucky enough to be able to build a house from scratch, you can avoid many of the toxic offenders. The two friends’ first “holistic home” was the house Baker-Laporte had begun building for Elliott. They had already bought cabinets, so they used a nontoxic sealer to lock in fumes from the processed wood. Elsewhere in the house they chose untreated wood–no preservatives–and nontoxic finishes, such as paints that don’t emit volatile organic compounds. Slowly, the health-friendly building took shape: They used tiled floors in place of carpets that would trap allergens, and created an entryway where people could remove their shoes to avoid tracking in particles from the outdoors. They added a drain in the laundry room floor to guard against mold.

But here’s good news even for those of us who aren’t building a brand-new house: There’s a lot we can do, too, to reduce our exposure to toxic products. Elliott helps her patients identify–and find substitutes for–the many offenders in their homes. These days, environmentally healthy home products abound for virtually every room in the house.

Natural Serenity

A healthy home, however, requires more than just the absence of certain bad actors. In creating Elliott’s home, the doctor and Baker-Laporte also thought carefully about elements to invite inside, such as light, fresh air, and greenery. They considered how to enhance the relationship between the living space and the New Mexico landscape they loved, and how to intertwine the inside and the outside in ways that support well-being. Glass doors, for instance, open onto a beautiful garden. “Nature really is healing,” says Baker-Laporte. “A house can provide an opportunity to connect with it.”

Sarah Conn, director of the Cambridge-based Ecopsychology Institute at the Center for Psychology for Social Change, would agree. On a very basic level, she says, sunshine and fresh air are mood boosters: “People can be nourished in a way that reduces depression and anxiety.” Conn, who teaches sustainable design to architects, believes that even if you’re in a fifth-floor apartment, you can take advantage of the healing aspects of nature by bringing it indoors.

Start by focusing on air and light. If you can, throw open your windows to allow fresh air to flow through the rooms. That will help to disperse any indoor air pollutants that have built up in your home. And start collecting houseplants, which can soak up toxic gases as well as please the eye.

We also need sunlight to thrive. Indeed, we’re hardwired to respond to it. So find ways to bring more of it into a room. If a skylight is out of the question, try placing mirrors where they’ll reflect an outdoor view or a beautiful plant. “This puts you more in touch with the cycles of nature,” Baker-Laporte says. “The space becomes more alive.” Mirrors will also reflect light and make a small space feel larger, adding to the feeling of comfort and ease. Move a comfy chair closer to a window to give yourself a place to bask. (Who knows, all this might even give you a brainpower boost: In an Orange County, California school, student test scores jumped 12 percent after natural light was introduced into classrooms.)

If the views outside your windows aren’t as refreshing as you’d like, it’s easy to dress them up by planting clambering ivy or flowers outside, or in a pot inside. If a vista is truly uninviting, tape some handmade Japanese paper, which looks beautiful when illuminated, to the inside of the glass.

And don’t neglect the obvious: The busier your life, the more important it is to have at least one place in your home–whether it’s just a corner or a whole room–that’s a soothing place of respite. Bring in a tableau of natural objects that make you feel good–seashells from a favorite beach trip, say, or stones collected on a hike–and arrange them on a shelf or small table with plenty of space around them. If there’s room for a tabletop fountain, so much the better. Spending a few quiet minutes each day in a place that brings you peace can do wonders for your spirits.

Just ask Baker-Laporte, who’s infinitely happier and healthier in the all-natural home she has since built for herself. Since moving in, she says she has reaped a sense of well-being that grows stronger every year. Comparing her life now to her earlier one, she says, “It’s like night and day. You can’t feel peaceful if your body is at war with its surroundings.”

What You Can Do

For a detailed look at common sources of indoor air pollution, their health effects, and solutions, check out The Inside Story: A Guide to Indoor Air Quality. This report, from the EPA, can be found online at EPA.gov.

If you want to measure pollutant levels in your own home, contact your state or local health department for a list of companies that provide testing.

Send Toxins Packing
Perhaps one of the most important things you can do to lighten your chemical load is to dispose wisely of any toxic products you’ve collected over the years. Pull on the rubber gloves and bring the containers down to your local hazardous waste collection center. Call 1.800.CLEANUP or check www.cleanup.org for locations.

Clear the Air
It’s not something most of us give a lot of thought to, but stuffy, allergen-laden indoor air can drain both your energy and your spirits. Here are a few tips from Elliott and Baker-Laporte to help you breathe easy at home.

  • Make use of bathroom and kitchen fans to keep air moving. If your fans are so noisy that you never use them, look into replacing them: Many inexpensive new models are whisper-quiet.
  • Consider getting rid of carpets, particularly wall-to-wall types, the next time you’re redecorating. Older carpets will eventually stop emitting fumes, but even regular vacuuming won’t be able to collect all the dirt, dust, and microorganisms residing there. Tile, cork, hardwood, and bamboo are all good flooring alternatives.
  • Upgrade your vacuum cleaner to one with a HEPA (high efficiency particulate arrestance) filter, which can collect mold and dust-mite droppings and won’t belch them back into the air the way other models can.
  • Retrofit forced-air heating or cooling systems with an intake to pull in fresh air and a HEPA filter to trap pollutants.
  • Replace the filters in any air-handling system regularly; check and promptly repair any damaged flues, chimneys, or ductwork.
Green Cleaners
The quest for a squeaky-clean home can create more problems than it solves, since conventional cleaners tend to be loaded with chemicals. Luckily, many products are available in natural food stores (and sometimes even mainstream ones) that rely on natural substances to fight grime.

World's Hairiest Man in China

Yu Zhenhuan from China is the world's hairiest man with hair covering 96 percent of his body. Yu was diagnosed with a rare condition that causes hair to grow in places it normally shouldn't. He was born in a farmer family and when he was only 2 years old his parents noticed he had hair coming out of his auditory canals. His situation worsened as he grew up and now almost his entire body is covered with long thick hair.

But Yu might have the chance of living a normal life, he is now undertaking a laser treatment to have his hair removed. Basically, every hair on his body will have to be zapped with laser. That can’t be pleasant, but for Yu Zenhuan it's nowhere as painful as looking in the mirror.

Couple of days ago his girlfriend posted some new photos on a Chinese forum.
Here they are.

Magnetic electricity

Researchers have discovered a magnetic equivalent to electricity: single magnetic charges that can behave and interact like electrical ones.

The work is the first to make use of the magnetic monopoles that exist in special crystals known as spin ice.

Writing in Nature journal, a team showed that monopoles gather to form a "magnetic current" like electricity.

The phenomenon, dubbed "magnetricity", could be used in magnetic storage or in computing.

Magnetic monopoles were first predicted to exist over a century ago, as a perfect analogue to electric charges.

Although there are protons and electrons with net positive and negative electric charges, there were no particles in existence which carry magnetic charges. Rather, every magnet has a "north" and "south" pole.

Current event

In September this year, two research groups independently reported the existence of monopoles - "particles" which carry an overall magnetic charge. But they exist only in the spin ice crystals.

These crystals are made up of pyramids of charged atoms, or ions, arranged in such a way that when cooled to exceptionally low temperatures, the materials show tiny, discrete packets of magnetic charge.

Now one of those teams has gone on to show that these "quasi-particles" of magnetic charge can move together, forming a magnetic current just like the electric current formed by moving electrons.

They did so by using sub-atomic particles called muons, created at the Science and Technology Facilities Council's (STFC) ISIS neutron and muon source near Oxford.

The muons decay millionths of a second after their production into other sub-atomic particles. But the direction in which these resulting particles fly off is an indicator of the magnetic field in a tiny region around the muons.

The team, led by Stephen Bramwell, from the London Centre for Nanotechnology, implanted these muons into spin ice to demonstrate how the magnetic monopoles moved around.

They showed that when the spin ice was placed in a magnetic field, the monopoles piled up on one side - just like electrons would pile up when placed in an electric field.

Professor Bramwell told BBC News that the development is unlikely to catch on as a means of providing energy, not least because the particles travel only inside spin ices.

"We're not going to be seeing a magnetic light bulb or anything like that," he said.

But by engineering different spin ice materials to modify the ways monopoles move through them, the materials might in future be used in "magnetic memory" storage devices or in spintronics - a field which could boost future computing power.
