Thanks man! I just bought a Nikkor AF-S 50 mm f/1,4G to my girlfriend for this christmas - being only 80% sure that it will AF on her d3000. You made me feel much more calm :)

This is a very useful post, I just entered to internet looking for this exactly, now I know what I can get for my D3000.

Also I did not know that some of these lenses were compatible for those cameras!

I don't see any 1.8 lenses, such as 50mm 1.8 AF, or 35mm 1.8 AF. I was told my a camera dealer that as long as it was AF it would be compatible with my D3100. Was he wrong?

On D3100, Nikkor AF-S 35mm f/1.8 will autofocus, but the Nikkor AF 50mm f/1.8 will not autofocus.

I think he meant AF-S. With S letter after the F there. ;)

OK, I see. I was wanting a 50mm... so there is just one that is compatible. Thanks!

Are Sigma lenses better than Nikkor lenses.? I'm looking at the Nikkor 50mm AF-S f1.4 against the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM and I'm finding the price for the Nikkor lens lower than the Sigma.
