NIKKOR AF-S 58mm f/1.4G

The AF-S NIKKOR 58mm f/1.4G is a lens that makes the most of advanced optical design technologies long cultivated by Nikon to achieve high reproduction capability of point light sources even at the maximum aperture, and natural depth of subjects utilizing smooth and beautiful bokeh characteristics. With shooting of distant night landscapes, the lens minimizes the sagittal coma flare that makes a point light source look like a bird with its wings spread to render point light sources as sharp points with no distortion or fringes across the entire frame, even at maximum aperture, for clear and crisp night landscape shots.
In addition, the AF-S NIKKOR 58mm f/1.4G renders subjects impressively with beautiful bokeh that moderately changes as the distance from the sharply focused point increases for natural depth that makes near human subjects or still objects appear more three dimensional.

What's more, despite being a fast lens, not only is light falloff controlled for natural brightness across the entire frame, even at the maximum aperture of f/1.4, for sharp rendering of objects at infinity, but adoption of Nano Crystal Coat effectively reduces flare and ghost.

This single lens responds to the demands of professional and advanced amateur photographers looking to achieve the images they intend with all types of photos, from night landscapes to impressive photos utilizing bokeh.
AF-S NIKKOR 58mm f/1.4G

Primary Features
  • A fast normal lens with a focal length of 58mm and maximum aperture of f/1.4 that utilizes advanced optical design technologies
  • Minimization of sagittal coma flare for high reproduction capability of point light sources as sharp points across the entire frame
  • Sharp, high-resolution images can be reproduced even at the maximum aperture
  • Original lens characteristics that provide natural depth reproduction with which the degree of bokeh moderately changes as the distance from the sharply focused point increases
  • Controlled light falloff retains natural brightness across the entire frame even at the maximum aperture of f/1.4
  • Nano Crystal Coat effectively reduces flare and ghost

Nikon D610

The D610 offers an effective pixel count of 24.3-million pixels, the superior rendering capability of the Nikon FX format, as well as the mobility of high-speed continuous shooting at approximately 6 fps. Despite its compact size and light weight, it is capable of the rich expression of tones, broad dynamic range, and low noise characteristics with shooting at high sensitivities expected of an FX-format camera. It also offers the beautiful blur characteristics, and superior image quality and rendering performance that challenges that of top end models like the D4, D800, and D800E. What's more, its compact and lightweight body is loaded with a number of features that give it excellent basic performance, including an optical viewfinder with frame coverage of approximately 100%, double SD memory card slots, top and rear covers made of magnesium alloy, and a function for recording time-lapse movies. It is also equipped with a new quiet continuous release mode that supports continuous shooting at approximately 3 fps.

Its 39-point AF system supports certain acquisition and tracking of the intended subject, and the 9 most frequently used focus points at the center of the frame utilize cross-type sensors for greater accuracy. In addition, autofocusing is possible with lenses that have a combined maximum aperture of f/8 or faster using 7 focus points at the center of the frame (3 vertical and 5 horizontal; center focus point utilizes cross-type sensor), enabling highly precise autofocusing even when a super-telephoto NIKKOR lens is used with a teleconverter.

The D610 is also equipped with a built-in flash that covers the angle of view of a wide-angle 24mm lens and has a guide number of approximately 12/39 (m/ft, ISO 100, 20°C/68°F). The built-in flash is equipped with a commander function that allows it to be used as a master flash able to wirelessly control the optional Speedlights SB-910 and SB-700 as remote units. This capability allows users to easily enjoy creative expression with varied lighting options.

The D610 also offers users powerful support for their photography with excellent system expansion using a variety of accessories, including the Wireless Remote Controllers WR-R10 (transceiver) and WR-T10 (transmitter) for simple and enjoyable remote operation, and the Wireless Mobile Adapter WU-1b, which enables simple sharing of full-size images exhibiting the superior image quality of the D610 with a smart device (all accessories sold separately).

As a compact system that is easy to manage and use, the D610 is a Nikon FX-format model that a broad range of users, not just professional or advanced amateur photographers, will enjoy.

D610 Primary Features
  • 24.3MP Full-frame CMOS sensor (10.5MP DX-format crop mode)
  • ISO 100-6400 (expandable to ISO 50-25,600 equivalent)
  • Maximum 6fps continuous shooting; new quiet continuous mode shoots at 3 fps
  • 39-point AF system with 9 cross-type AF points
  • Refined auto white balance system
  • Wireless flash control
  • 3.2in 921k-dot LCD screen
  • Dual memory card slots
  • 1080p30 full HD video
  • Uncompressed video recording via HDMI

10 Tips For Better Macro Photography.

There's something very special and different about the miniature world, and the fact that it's one of the fields where you can't really see the details of your subject with your bare eyes increases the mystery. Here are ten of those tips

by Alan M.

1. Get Closer
Macro is all about capturing the intricate details of your subjects, and the closer you are to them, the more beautiful and curious detail is revealed.

2. Wake up Early and Try to Shoot in Soft, Natural Light
Using natural light is challenging, problematic, and often very frustrating, but nothing gets close to the natural appearance that results. the contrast is well controlled and the colors are much more natural when using natural light in conditions such as those before sunrise or on a heavily overcast day. Another advantages is that insects usually spend the night in a dormant state, ans shooting them early means they'll be tame and won't fly away just as you've finished composing.
the disadvantages is the necessary long exposures compel you to use tripod, and the slightest breeze can ruin an image.

3. Use a Tripod and a Camera Remote
The smallest camera shake can ruin your image when you're shooting tiny subjects down to a few millimeters in length. And use a remote, preferably cordless, to avoid camera shake when you press the shutter release.

4. Shoot at Eye Level
In essence, wildlife macro photography is no different than any other kind of wildlife photography, the interesting details of your subjects are usually seen at the eye level and you need to position your camera to view the subject at an angle showing its most important features.

5. Mind the Background
In Macro, a small change in the angle of shooting can result in a very significant difference in the background. Be mindful of that. if a subject fills the frame, a busy background would most likely take attention away from the subject and when a subject relatively small in the frame, maintaining a smooth, even background could result in a boring image.

6. Control Depth of Field
The closer you are to a subject, the shallower the depth of field (DOF). The easiest way to get around this probles is to shoot the subject parallel to its body, so that the most of the subject's interesting deatures are still in focus or you can try focus stacking: shooting a series of images focused in different DOF and then combine them.

7. Focus carefully (and manually)
Use manual focus (and live view) exclusively when shooting macro because autofocus isn't accurate enough in extreme magnifications.
Why trust the AF sensor when you can trust your own eyes?

8. Try to caputre Rare, Interesting Scenes, Not Just Insects Sitting on Branches

9. Know Your Subject and Its Behavior
Even basic knowledge can significantly help you to shoot the more interesting sides of your subjects and get the shots more easily.

10. Understand What You're Doing
Don't count on luck, Understanding the camera parameters, subject behavior, wheather conditions, light and other aspects is important, and will make all the difference between a mediocre photographer and a good one. Macro is a highly technical field of photography, shooting thousands of shots and counting on a few of them doesn't seem like a good approach.
